W Retreat & Spa, Maldives

Located on the island of Fesdu, renowned for its unique diving spots, this superchic resort offers views of palms draped over white-sand beaches.

Ambience: Traditional Maldivian architecture—wood structures with thatch roofs built on stilts over the water—conceal contemporary, stylish interiors of polished wood and glass. Conceived as a "luxury playground," the hotel blends an organically inspired local esthetic with cosmopolitan touches like modern artwork on the walls.

Rooms: Each private villa features its own plunge pool, massive circular daybed and grill for private dining, as well as 42-inch plasma TVs and deluxe Bose sound systems. The "Ocean Oasis" retreats are perched above the water and feature glass floors so guests can watch the underwater fauna, which can even be illuminated for nighttime viewing.

Dining: Watch the sun go down with a cocktail in the chilled-out SIP bar before heading to Fish for freshly caught seafood prepared with Asian flair. Try the lobster bisque, a potage of lemon grass, lime leaf, lobster and cognac. End the night dancing at the funky 15 Below bar, set in a grotto underground and offering the largest selection of vodka in the Maldives.
