Chill out!

Indians are suddenly emerging to be ‘voracious’ travellers, with some taking as many as three holidays in a year! More disposable income, the need to take a break to beat stress, spending quality time with family, the urge to explore the unique and exotic, see and sink in the wonderful world, the reasons are many and all genuine! Wanderlust is taking us everywhere, and as travel coordinators observe, the Indian travellers know what they want, and demand for the best. “They are updated, have done their homework well and ask for personalized holidays, where there’s action for everyone,’’ smiles Kapil Khanna of Ekido Travels, who is these days, chock-a-block planning travel itinerary for the Summer of 2007. “Our best deals are yet to arrive, but so far, it’s a mad rush out here,’’ adds Khanna. While in India, Goa, Kerala and the Star Cruises remain all-time hits, in Asia, it’s China that is catching the fancy of many and hence, tailor-made packages for the East. “Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand have now been explored, now China’s the new haunt,’’ explains Kapil, who advises that travel packages that sound too good to be true, need to be double-checked, for many a time, these are advertised without inclusives, taxes, airport charges, sightseeing et al.

Ravi Barua of Thomas Cook observes that the seasoned traveller is looking for a holiday with a difference, for he’s already experienced the usual. “The Scandinavian countries are an attraction this season, as are Spain, Africa and Egypt (about Rs 60,000 per person), and these packages can be made according to one’s budget and time,’’ explains Ravi. Europe too is popular this season, especially for those looking to beat the heat and London, Paris and Switzerland are three main destinations in the European plan. Thomas Cook’s guided tour (eight days, nine nights) of Bangkok, Malaysia, Singapore is being lapped up, and costs approximately Rs 53,000 per person. “The US has also picked up well this season, for getting a visa now is much easier, as embassies have relaxed rules for tourist visa,’’ adds Ravi. Ooty and Goa, informs Nishu of Grand Travels, Sector 17, are summer locales for inbound travellers, while this summer, Maldives and Mauritius are doing really well, “The three-night all-inclusive package to Maldives costs about Rs 80,000 per person, while a six-night one to Mauritius is for about Rs 52,000 per person. Phuket and Lankavi (Rs 40,000 per person) are also being booked.’’ What’s your destination?
