President Gayoom accepts resignations from Jabir, Nazim, Yameen

L-R: Abdulla Jabir, Abdulla Yameen and Ahmed Nazim

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has today accepted the resignations of Abdulla Yameen, the Minister of Higher Education, Employment and Social Security, and Ahmed Nazim, the Minister of State for Higher Education, Employment and Social Security. President Gayoom also accepted the resignation of the Chairman of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), Abdulla Jabir, who had also submitted his resignation letter to the president some time back.

Abdulla Yameen, Noonu atoll Member at the People’s Majlis and President Gayoom’s younger brother, had tendered in his resignation letter some weeks back but had on a previous occasion denied it. Yameen, who has been a member of the cabinet since 11 November 1993, recently stated that he was being pressured by the government in the performance of his duties and said that he was ‘frustrated’ with it. He said that the government had bundled all the difficult institutions of the government, squeezed it into a fish can, and handed it to him.

Jabir had sent in his resignation letter earlier this year on 24th January, citing that MIFCO was not being managed in the way that a company should be as his reason for resigning.

Chief Government Spokesman, Hussain Shareef, today confirmed that the President had accepted the resignations of Abdulla Yameen and Ahmed Nizam, a member of the ruling Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) and the Meemu atoll Member of the People’s Majlis. Jabir, who is also a member of the DRP and Gaafu Alifu atoll MP, said that “today is a day for accepting resignations” and revealed that he had received the letter of confirmation at 3:00pm today.

today after viewing this post i felt how deeply these there guys are connected to each other. today Yameen and Nazim is in the opposition. Yameein is hoping to get the presidential ticket of DRP for 2013. Jaabir is contesting for MDP chairmanship in the hope of protecting assets he obtained during much of Gayoom's regime. at the other hand Naazim is facing corruption charges.
