Surfing champion Kelly Slater coming to Maldives

Six-time world champion surfer, Kelly Slater, will be coming to Maldives to take part in the third edition of the Quiksilver Young Guns feature DVD series. The Quiksilver Young Guns is known as the most elite crew of performance surfers in the world. The new DVD movie will be filmed over a four-month period in locations worldwide.

According to the Quiksilver website the first part of the film has already been shot in the Hawaiian Islands and the second part will commence in February 2007. Kelly Slater and some of the best surfers in the world were currently in Australia and are believed will arrive in Maldives sometime during April or May. The cast and crew will live in a house together and will carefully watch weather charts over a 6000-mile zone covering all surf spots from the Maldives to Maui. Using a specialist surf forecaster to pin-point locations that are cranking, the Young Guns will fly in to catch the peak of the swell.

A fresh and unique aspect of the production is the dynamically changing cast. Young Guns 2 “Tube Ride of the Year” winner Dane Reynolds, and surfers Clay Marzo, Ry Craike, Jeremy Flores and Julian Wilson will be joined this time by another world-class junior, globalsurfnews.com said.

Young Guns 3 will be helmed by Jason Muir, co-director of the 2006 Surfer Poll Video of the Year, “First Chapter”, and cinematographer of “Young Guns 1 and 2”. Internationally acclaimed designer, Natas Kaupas, will provide art and creative direction. The film will showcase the talents of the best up and coming filmers and, editors and will employ new mini camera hand-held technology. The final production DVD will be released May/June 2007.

Every time a Quiksilver Young Guns is filmed it gives a great boost to the tourism industry of the relevant countries. Original Young Guns 2 DVDs are available at Cool Casual and Quiksilver store in Maldives.
