Joint Army training exercise begins
T'PURAM: The Indian Army is engaging in a joint training exercise with the Maldivian National Defence Forces (MNDF), which includes a two-day counter-terrorist exercise.
The week-long exercise began on Saturday, a statement issued here said.
Codenamed ‘Ekuverin’, an infantry battalion of the Southern Command is involved in the exercise on the Indian side.
The exercise is on at the MNDF training centre at Khadhoo Island. India has conducted joint Naval training with Maldives on a number of occasions, but this is the first time that the Indian Army is training jointly with the MNDF in Maldives.
The aim of the training is to foster Army-to-Army co-operation and enhance inter-operability, the statement said.
